I love fic that takes a moment from canon and expands on it, especially when the show never really addresses the effects and feelings that the turning point may have had on the character(s) involved. I didn't have to wait weeks for the next episode but I remember the closing moments with Jack in peril, and I really liked this introspection as he faces death. Very nice descriptions, vivid, evocative.
