I love the power struggle, the dynamic of the two of them. I think Claire's will and defiance and fiesty nature is kind of what both frustrates him and attracts him.

And I like that he went for more mental warfare here. It shows a more dangerous side, I think. But somehow in this fic I see them as being more on equal footing, here.
